Vis Sources

This records the known sources of Vis controlled (or accessible) by the Somnium Oceani covenant.

  • The waters surrounding Somnium Oceani are home to numerous fish. After the first storm of each season, the fish pulled in have been known to bear magical power. Former covenant magus Dominus of Tytalus had been known to go out fishing in the middle of the storms, before his demise. A skilled magus can gather 1 Aquam Vis per season from the local fisherman’s docks, though local nobles sometimes try to purchase the best fish after a good storm – local legend holds that it adds a year to your life.(4 Aquam vis per Year)
  • South of the covenant, a day’s journey into the mountains brings the covenant to the ruins of Villa Capello, an abandoned summer home for Pisan nobles. Every Hallows’ Eve, a ghost walks from the manor before settling on an unmarked grave in the area. Digging up the bones where the ghost rests can produce vis. (3 pawns of Mentem Vis each Hallows)
  • Above the covenant, in the rocky hills, there is a magical regio that opens into a crystalline cave. The crystals grow naturally, and are different every time people visit it. The crystal structures contain vis, but are impossible to transport – but the vis can be transferred to another container using magic. (4 pawns Terram vis per year)
  • The mountain of Monte Cinto has beneath it a small cave system within a magical regio. The twisting tunnels open into two separate caverns, each trapping a sleeping dragon which has grown too big to escape. Every spring, the magi must bring each of the two dragons a cattle to devour. If that is done, you can gather the fallen scales of the dragons for vis later that year. (up to 3 pawns Perdo and 3 pawns Ignem vis each Autumn.)
  • The southern point of Corsica has a tall spire ruled by a Wind Prince, a great magical bird. Every year he clashes with his brother and rival on Sardinia, and the winner rips out the pinfeathers of his rival. Those pinfeathers are set in a stone crown in their nest, and count as vis. (2 pawns of Auram vis in Summer or Autumn, should the bird win)
  • Though not technically a Vis source owned by the covenant, every Autumn Equinox, a strange faerie boatman drifts into town with a midnight fog. He always has vis to barter, though what he asks for in trade is always strange: Dreams, memories, orphan children, a sprig of olive branch from a particular tree… (Up to 3 pawns of vis each Autumn.)

The covenant’s Vis stores are as follows:
Creo (4), Intellego (4), Muto (7), Perdo (43), Rego (5), Animal (4), Aquam (70), Auram (6), Corpus (3), Herbam (7+2), Ignem (34), Imaginem (4), Mentem (41), Terram (58), Vim (16)
